Description
From Stephen Chu mail

"C-CDA StatusCode is primarily used for state-transition/object state/workflow representations with values such as:

  • consol::AllergyProblemAct::statusCode                     active, suspended, aborted, completed,
  • consol::HealthConcernAct::statusCode                      active, suspended, aborted, completed,
  • consol::ProcedureActivityObservation::statusCode     completed, active, aborted, cancelled,
  • consol::ProcedureActivityProcedure::statusCode       completed, active, aborted, cancelled,

And in some cases, it is also used to represent a mixture of "findings" and "object/workflow" status, e.g.:

consol::MedicationActivity::statusCode       normal, aborted, active, cancelled, completed, held,

                                                                new, suspended, nullified, obsolete,

where "normal" is a value more reflective of "finding" about the activity/event

The values of "resolved", "inactive" mentioned by Rob are clinical status values, which C-CDA R2.0 does not have template(s) for.

PCWG is in discussions with SDWG on how to represent clinical status values for Conditions, Problems, Concerns (including Allergy/Intolerance).

PCWG will hold a conference call on 13 March at 5:00pm US Eastern time to discuss this matter before organising a joint call with SDWG.

I am happy to share the slide deck that I have prepared for this topic with the IPS project after PCWG and SDWG have reached agreement on the topic.

Description
I don't see any clear meaning or use for "suspended" or "aborted" in the allergy/intolerance context.  FHIR does also include "resolved", as a subtype of "inactive", which seems reasonable.  We could consider either restricting the ProblemAct statusCode value set to only "active" and "completed", or we could consider adopting the FHIR allergy-clinical-status (http://build.fhir.org/valueset-allergy-clinical-status.html) value set.

Description
The C-CDA provides the following explanations:
  • As long as the underlying condition is of concern to the author (i.e., as long as the allergy, whether active or resolved, is of ongoing concern and interest to the author), the statusCode is “active”.
  • Only when the underlying allergy is no longer of concern is the statusCode set to “completed”.

Should we limit the value set to these two values ? (the C-CDA includes beside actvie and completed also aborted and suspended)

If not what is the meaning for an allergy concern that is "suspended" or "aborted" for the purpose of an IPS ?

Finding:

Should we use the 4 values defined for the IHE PCC templates or the full ActStatusNormal value set ?

Call 25 Nov 2016:

- Define a minimal value set with the codes that are actually needed for an allergy concern
- for each selected code describe the meaning in this context
