Status Draft Version Label
Description
Type of allergy or intolerance: e.g. allergy, intolerance, propensity to adverse reaction.
Comment
In this version of the data set the kind of propensity has been distinguished form the associated agent category, even though implementations might represent them with a unique element that convey suitable combined terms (e.g. allergy to drug).
Operationalization
Proposed
CDA: single data element that combines kind of allergy and category of allergen
FHIR: two distinct elements

agent category and propensity type have been split in the current data set version

Description
I think we should not mix the functional approach of the logical model here with any implementation issues. In CDA there is no other element where it could be placed and from an implementation perspective that may be fine. In FHIR they invented another term with the propensity to be overloaded like type and category . What's the difference??? Here? Anywhere else?

Fact is that a FOOD allergy classifies the type of the agent in the first row, and therefore in the second row also sub-categorizes the allergy. Our thoughts here should be completely without any implementation techniques in the background here first. There is always a way to implement it...

Description
In most of the available CDA implementations (see e.g. epSOS and C-CDA) a single element is used to convey both, using codes that describe the type of propensity (e.g. allergy) and the category of agent (e.g.   414285001, Food allergy (disorder) ) or only the type (e.g.  420134006, " Propensity to adverse reactions (disorder)" )
the question here is if we want to have these two type of information distinct or not ...using a single type element.

Description
The list shown "(food | medication | biologic | environment)" is the type or category of the agent, not the allergy/intolerance

Description
Finding:

The AllergyIntolerance FHIR resource (http://build.fhir.org/allergyintolerance.html) uses type only for distinguishing between allergy and intolerance and delegates to the category attribute the distiction among food, drug,  etc.. propensity.

Value sets used for those elements are required.

What we'd like to do ? What are the implication of this choice in both implementations (FHIR/CDA)

are the
(allergy | intolerance)
( food | medication | biologic | environment)
Enough for our choice ?
