The Dispense Request (part fill) template is used to communicate the instructions for the partial filling of a prescription event required. Part-Fill is a method for prescribing a staggered fill where refills are not allowed as in the case of opioids or other controlled substances. When these types of medications are prescribed, the prescriber MUST specify the total quantity to be dispensed. Although refills are not allowed, the prescriber may specify that the total amount be dispensed in smaller amounts at specified intervals until the total amount has been dispensed.

This template includes the requested dispense quantity, duration, and the fill interval (amount of time between dispense events).
