Anti-human leukocyte antigen hyperimmunization (disorder)
Anti-human leukocyte antigen hyperimmunization
An increase in anti-human leukocyte antigen (anti-HLA) mostly seen in chronic renal failure patients that have undergone hemodialysis and polytransfusion. Other factors leading to anti-HLA hyperimmunization are renal transplantation and pregnancy. Anti-HLA hyperimmunization is a major factor in acute graft rejection. It can be limited by administrating erythropoietin for the treatment of chronic renal failure related anemia, which reduces the number of transfusions required.
